In Atlanta, a truck driver with a history of falling asleep while driving pleaded guilty to five counts of vehicular homicide. Nearly one quarter of Americans over 20 years old report problems concentrating, and 18% have memory recall problems due to lack of sleep, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Quality sleep is important to the entire workforce, not just the transportation industry. Well-rested employees are more productive, miss fewer days due to illness and have fewer accidents. Further, employees experience intangible benefits, such as greater job satisfaction and a willingness to collaborate more extensively. Added up, these benefits build a strong case for sleep health programs.
