Meet Core Value Winner: Lisa Burns - July 2015

Every month, Schwartz Insurance Group selects a peer-nominated associate to receive a Core Value Award. The winner is chosen because they "lived" one of our agency's core values ... typically an event or accomplishment above and beyond the call of duty in serving our customers. This month, Lisa Burns has "lived" our core value of "Quick to Smile." Here's her story:

You’ve likely heard that “Your first impression is your only impression.”  It speaks to the fact that people remember that first encounter so well …

Fortunately, most of our clients’ first encounter with Schwartz Insurance happens to be on the phone or walking through the door - directly into the care of the perfect person to welcome them.  Lisa Burns also does so much more than greet our clients. She helps each of us by handling the daily mail, ordering supplies and providing many other types of support for our team – and she shines!

Lisa proves daily why she IS the Director of First Impressions.  Quick to Smile really works!

Here, in her own words, is a little more information about Lisa:

Tell us a little bit about the type of work you do at Schwartz Insurance Group.

I am the Director of First Impressions, a.k.a. a receptionist.  In addition to the phones, I open and distribute the mail, and assist all our associates and clients.  I manage our office supplies and the deal seeker in me helps the agency save money on everything!  I try to make everyone from clients to co-workers feel welcome in our family-owned business.

When you aren’t at work, what keeps you busy? 

I enjoy walking for exercise on my lunch break and when I'm home, taking care of my two cats keeps me busy.  I enjoy reading health and home improvement magazines and then taking on home improvement projects, big or small!

Have you always been in this industry? If not, what brought you where you are today? 

Twenty-six years ago, I started with The Hartford in Simsbury, CT working my way up into the Claims area. After two office closures, I decided to focus my time doing the things I enjoy doing, namely taking care of people.

What’s one thing you love about what you do for a living?  

I love helping people so they never feel like they are bothering me.  I believe that kindness matters.

Tell us a little bit about what you do for fun. 

I enjoy going out to dinner and hanging out with family and friends, shopping for bargains and researching my next home improvement project!

If you could do one thing for a living that had nothing to do with your current job, what would it be? 

I have investigative and detail-oriented skills that I can’t keep down - I'd love to be a private investigator or a lawyer in my next life!

UK or UofL? 

I support both, but if it really came down to it, based on my hometown, I would root for UofL.
